Hi there ! Could someone please help me figure out why I'm facing the problem described below ? When I use the Windows OS CD to either setup or repair Windows XP, I get a blue screen with the message 'Examining 28616 MB drive on disk(0) id(0) on atapi...' and the system then hangs.....

Sounds like it doesn't like some of your hardware. From your other post - is there a problem with hard drive? Things you can try are removing stick of memory (if more than 1) or replacing it with different, remove all non-essential hardware (eg, sound, network & modem cards, second hard drives, CDRWs, zip drives) and try again. Slow down memory or processor (you can sometines do this in the bios). Note what you've done. If setup continues ok, once XP installed you can try bring machine back to normal, one thing at a time.

Hi Steve, Thank you so much for responding ! The problem I'm facing is on my laptop. If it were a desktop, taking components would have been fairly easy. I did try disabling the various 'extra' ports in the BIOS like the 'Multi-port' and the 'Infra-red' port. This did not work either.... The system still hangs !
