Subject: Windows XP Install failing - sata?OS: XP PROCPU/Ram: 3.4 GHZ P4 |
Comment: My new build keeps freezing when i go to install windpws XP. I'm booting from the new SATA hardrive (Seagate Barracuda 200GB) and when it goes to run the windows install disc in the cdrom drive it says sumthing about "Setup is initializing your hardware.." then goes to a blue screen that just says windows setup in the corner. I tried getting a floppy with SATA drivers but the install never gets to the "f6" point so i cant do anything on that front. Please help im really stuck.

Reply: (edit)Are you using a genuine Microsoft Xp installation disc. The F6 prompt is right after the boot to CD prompt and if you have an extremely fast computer it will sometimes only flash and go. As soon as you hit any key to boot to CD then start toggling the F6 key and it should catch. But you will not find that prompt if you are using an OEM xp installation disk from a branded builder like HP. Dell, or Compaq.
