I am trying to install windows xp home on a computer with no OS and no data on the harddrive. When I get passed the first half of the installation, it restarts like it should and when it starts to boot from the cd it says
Disk Error
Press any key to restartI've tried installing 2 different ways and neither of them have worked

Clean the CD and the CD-Rom.
If it starts to load and then restarts; it should finish unless there is something on the disk.

come on...someone help. thanks
the cd is fine...maybe there is a different problem :-\ it just says "disk error" when it trys to boot from cd the second time when it's suppose to run xp...

I was looking for an answer to my clean installation problem when I saw yours. Ditto. Dont know if youve had any success, but this is what I did.
I disconnected my second cd drive.
I ran manufacturers hard drive setup from floppy first. Deleted partitions. Changed boot sequence to cdrom then ide (disabled all other boot options) rebooted with xp in cdrom, installed in ntfs partition (40Gb)
At reboot when it says "press any key to boot from cdrom DONT, it then went happily on its way and completed successfullyfor love of the game, i just keep playing

I don't have a manufacturers floppy disc, I just have the xp cd. This is just a computer that my dad got for free from his work and it has the requirements to run xp but it doesn't at that second part.

Originally I couldnt get the xp cd to boot and used the 6 floppy xp boot disk route. When that didnt work I downloaded the hard drive setup disks from the hd manufacturers web site, but I dont think thats what did it although the seagate disk wizard software is designed to set up a hard drive ready to load an os. I think it was removing all the extraneuous hardware, making sure the boot sequence was limited to the cd and hd, and not hitting a key when it said to boot from cd after the reboot. If youve already tried all this then sorry I cant help but it worked for me
Good luck anyway
for love of the game, i just keep playing
