at startup all the desktop icons and the taskbar dissappier i can only open programs with ctrl-alt-delete (task manager) but i tried system restore and it dose not work! it has happened over 3 times right clicking and clicking show desktop icons dose not work. what can i do???

... have you tried it in safe mode? ... tap "F8" key @ boot-up select "safe mode" using arrow keys [press ENTER] ... once in safe mode click "no" on the "pop-up" that should guide you to system restore ... select a restore point by altering the restore calendar to a time when the pc was working fine. ... if it does work I suggest that you turn off system restore reboot then turn it back on again! ... to turn restore off... right click "My Computer" click properties click system restore (tab) "check" turn off system restore...
