Hello people,
like a lot of you noticed, my computer is really screwed up. So to simply solve all my problems all at once, i have decided to reformat my computer.
Can someone tell me how to safely reformat a computer and boot it back with Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2.

How are we supposed to know that your computer is screwed up? What IS screwed up is the fact that you don't know which CPU or how much RAM you have.

You realize that when you reformat, you'll lose everything, right? Hopefully you have your important files backed up. Also, you'll need to reinstall all the device drivers (chipset, video, sound, network, etc), not to mention all the programs & updates, so hopefully you have copies.

You might wanna try a repair install rather than reformatting. Either way, here's the instructions:

Perform a Repair Installation

Windows XP SP2 Home Install step by step on a used hard drive

yo jam thanks for the info but if you just gotta to know, i got 736mb of RAM and my CPU is AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2400+.

and how are you supposed to know my pc is screwed up? maybe not you, but the users that regularly help people on this part of the forum has seen all the other problems im having, and new problems are comming out every day. this is why i said: most of 'you' know... I used 'you' to describe the people that are supposed to know and are lookin toward helping people.

anyway, thanks for the links

After you have your computer setup and running
setup a restore point.

Home is not automatic but you can setup a restore point ....Install it from the CD at drive:\VALUEADD\MSFTN\NTBACKUP

Then when your computer screws up you can restore it in about ten minutes.

Just a thought.... hope it will be of use down the road.

To answer your question ... If you have a 'Microsoft'install CD, boot from it and follow the prompts. You will get the option to repartition/format the drive and install a fresh system.

But I agree with Jam, that you should try a 'repair' install, if you haven't done that yet.
