Curiousity has gotten the better of me..
Why would you have a key but no XP cd? Hmm.. anyways as XPuser and John said it will work. Only a few exception.. It has to be XP home.. Pro will not work nor will an OEM version work. Vice Versa.
Junk Internet Explorer, Get Firefox! You'll be happy you did.

If you did not get a disk, are you certain there isn't a restore built into your hard drive? That is the oonly reason I can think of for you having the cd key and no cd, as many makers are now doing that.

This means that the key you have is a COA and not a valid product id key. You cannot use what you have with any retail XP CD. You need to contact the machine manufacturer for restore CD.
Incidentialky you misled your system stat which made it harder for us to help you.

Not sure they have to give you the CD nor the CD image at all.
Best bet is to see how your computer maker offers a restore/recover method. Might be a hidden partition. Might have to make CD's. Might even have to order them at extra cost. You may have destroyed the data. Usually the maker offers replacement disks. I know Sony did and IBM did.
Why you would have a KEY and not a valid right to use the software is beyond me. You can put that software on ONE computer with limited exceptions. Your key is MS's way to prove that it is valid.

It's beyond me why anybody would buy/run a box with no way to reinstall the OS.
