Inside of the Admin control panel the is the Services tool, in there windows list the active and unactivated services on your computer, what happened was while updating my computer with windows update I was instructed to turn on the B.I.T. service which I think is called Background Intelligent Transfer, now after having updated my computer windows has hidden the B.I.T. service from the list of services on my PC, I would like to know if there is anyway to get the hidden service back on the list so I can disable it. Please Help...

Thank you that did explain the problem, the thing is though nothing they suggest works except doing a system restore, your best bet is to never turn on B.I.T. cause you can not turn it back off and forget about updating windows XP on windows update, you should wait til they make a service pack 4 otherwise you'll end up with the same unreversible problems that I had my entire computer became corupted like I had a virus but it was because of windows update and the enabling of Background Intelligtance Tansfer that can not be turned off.
