Windows XP freezes while installing

Hi there! I'm trying to install Windows XP Pro on a friends machine. I got into WinXP setup, and it starts copying files (i see file names in the right bottom) after that, the file names disappear and the LED's from both the harddisk and the cd-rom drive do not flash. I've waited for over 3 hours, but i figured it wouldn't continue anymore. I also see no time indication, so I'm not sure whether or not setup is actually installing. Anybody had a same problem? Any thoughts welcome here!

Try cleaning the CD thouroghly and then try it again,there may be some blemishes on it,also if you have two optical drives you can try the other drive too.Goodluck

This is illegal. However most do it anyway. It might have been registered to one comp. and wont work when u try to install on another. Do, clean the CD. it is good advice. And have patience!!!

Anyways, another method of installing XP (which might work in ur case), is to copy the whole of the XP disk i386 folder onto ur HD drive first via a dos prompt (boot a Win98/ME floppy disk), and then run 'winnt' from C:\i386
Any further probs could point to a faulty disk or incompatible hardware/bios issue.
