Windows XP Freezes on Boot

windows xp freezes on logo screen. It boots okay in safe mode. How can I tell what program, dll, ... it can't load? Thanks!

try clearing programs out of the startup one by to determine which program may be causing the lockup (msconfig)

I tried to isolate the problem as you described, and selectively disabled everything via msconfig, but still have the problem. Do I have to reinstall windows? and if I do, do I have to reformat my drive?

It might not be a program problem. I may be a hardware problem. Have you tried getting the latest drivers for your video card and sound card? Either of those two would be my best call for problem causers. Try getting the latest drivers for them both. Also, try going into Safe Mode, and under Control Panel > System.... > Device manager, go into your sound card and DISABLE it. Dont remove it, just disable it and reboot. I dont know if you can do that with your video card. If you can, in safe mode, try to load a standard VGA card.

I found the problem. I had 2 devices using the same irq. I disabled one and it boots up fine now. Thanks very much for your help.
