This is the SECOND time im having this problem, 1st time I bought a DVD Writer and turned the computer off, put the dvd writer in, etc, turn it back on and at the Splash Screen (just before u select a user) where the blue animated bar goes from left to right - it freezes there, and hangs. Well 1st time I installed XP AGAIN onto my 2nd HD...and had to choose which windows I wanted, and ofcorse had to re-install everything.
This time I cant affort to do this, i got lots of stuff installed and I dont need a 3rd windows XP - I cant format either.
This time I tried to install 256mb stick of ram - it worked fine (it was recognized at the start) But then the Screen Froze. Like the last time.
I need MAJOR help, I tried "sfc/scannow" and I get the RPC error. I tried to boot from windows XP and Press "R" for repair but all that does it take me to DOS to D:\Windows....and I have no idea what to do. I tried SYSTEM RESTORE - also didnt work (maybe i didnt go far back enough).
Please help - I really really need to fix this problem.
Thank you.

How big is your power supply?
Have you doublechecked the jumpersetting on the new drive?
Can you boot to safe mode?Basically, what is happening is that something in the boot sequence is failing to load , and windows is waiting on it.
How to Repair XP
Describes how to do a repair install. If you can boot to safe mode this is not necessary as we can isolate the problem and figure out how to fix it.

Yes i can boot into safe mode, im running it right now. Its not the hard drive - it worked for like 2 months....i tried to add new ram, and it didnt load, so i put in the old one, and still not loading.
Its software - someting with XP.

Have you installed the drivers for the Writer yet? I have found that quite often, with new drives of any sort, it is best to install the driver first. Otherwise Windows may not be able to communicate with the device properly. In order to help you better, I need to know what model drive you bought (model & company- please try to be specific)
