Hello-
Out of the blue my copy of windows xp pro will no longer boot. At the xp loading screen where there's the bar along the bottom that scrolls as the OS loads, it freezes (the bar simply stops moving) and it doesnt do anything from there. Windows loads fine under safe mode.
Is there anything i can possibly do besides a clean install?
Thanks!

Thanks for the tip - where would i begin to use that program? I'm unfamiliar with the utility.
thanks again!

Start in safe mode. Start > Run > type in MSCONFIG and hit return.
Try a diagnostic startup first, and if that works, then try a selective startup with everything de-selected. Re-select items one at a time and restart between each one.
When you get to the point that the computer won't start, the last item you re-selected is the culprit. De-select it, and see if you can re-select everything else and still start up successfully.
When you find out what the problem is, post back and someone will tell you whether it's serious or not.
Good luck!
Roy.

Thanks for the reply.
Even after setting it as a diagnostic setup, and restarting,
it still freezes at the Windows XP load screen (the screen
where the blue progress bar scrolls below the XP logo). It
moves about 20% in, then simply freezes.... nothing.Frustrating, isnt it!!!!
Thanks for your continued help!

your operating system may be not loading drivers for particular hardware or your hardware must be having som problem ex.modem ,so do one thing , just remove devices from device manager . on your computer in safe mode -> right click your mycomputer -> go to properties ->then go to manage -> in manage dialog box go to device manager -> remove all the hardware devices from it , it will surely help u r computer start again , or else if it does not help you , if your computer was working fine some days before , just in safe mode restore your system to an restore point earlier to a day when it was working fine . i hope this will sure work
