While using my computer it went off as though the power was cut. Now I can't get back in. I get message "THE FOLLOWING FILES IS MISSING OR CORRUPT: WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
I know nothing about how computers work so don't understand computer talk!
I have tried repair when the blue screen is on but nothing happens. The computer is only 2 months old and has been fine until now HELP!!!

That should help. Otherwise use the XP cd to repair the installation.

try this and if it doesnt get you back in run repair install of xp.boot to xp cd,press
r to go to recovery console, once at c windows screen, type this
ren c;\windows\system32\config\system
press enter key
copy c:\windows\system32\repair\system
press enter key
exit and as computer reboots remove xp cd

Why isn't MS doing anything about this?
There are LOADS of messages about this problem!
I'm getting sick to death of seeing it.
MICROSOFT "PULL YOUR FINGER OUT!"

This error is usually caused by an application or device driver that is not compatible with Windows XP,even if the software or hardware vendor thinks it is.
It corrupts the system and or software hives in the registry.Boot up with your xp cd,
Go to your recover console, choose your installation
(usually 1) press enterThen type this exactly
cd system32\config (press enter)
ren system system.old (press enter)
copy c:\windows\repair\system (press enter)then reboot
it works fast and well..saves your settings.Well its not missing and its probably not corrupt. You get this message if something is writing too much data to the System subkey in the registry. Think about what you have installed lately.
Intel and ARC (RISC) systems have a design limit such that 16 megabyte (MB) of memory is available at this stage of the boot process and the following must fit in that available 16M RAM :
loader
kernel
HAL
boot drivers
system registry hiveIf the System registry hive exceeds 13MB, you get that error. To resolve the problem, you have to replace it with a backup version. Use the Repair Console tool to replace the backup copy of the System hive from the repair folder. If you do not have the Repair Console tool installed, you can run it from the Emergency Repair process:

What if I am missing the system file. I tried replacing it with the file in repair folder but I am still getting the same error. Now i am getting Blue screen of death. I am sick of this problem. This is the 5th time i am reinstalling Win XP. Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee HELP.... I really appreciate your help in advance.

Is there any way to find out what application or driver is causing this problem? I've reloaded XP about 5 times in the past 2 weeks and it's really getting quite aggravating!!

i tried the steps in responce 3 2-3 times on different systmes with the same problem.
i guess deleting system.sav after all this helps. add the following step to the steps in responce 3
in c:\windows\system32\config prompt,
del system.sav
u might get luckier.
