A couple of days ago while I was using mIRC, someone sent me a webpage that gave me a virus. After that my computer froze and I had to restart it by pressing the power button. When the computer restarted the welcome screen took longer to load and when it was done all I could see was my wallpaper. I couldn't right click and I had to press alt+ctrl+del to bring up the task manager and run Norton. It said there are no viruses anymore but this happens everytime I restart the computer. I have to close explorer.exe and run it again to get everything back to normal.

Can anyone help me?

System Restore option in Windows Me/XP

http://www.adamtj.org/repository/howto/W32.Blaster.Worm/
Users of Windows Me and Windows XP should temporarily turn off System Restore. Windows Me/XP uses this feature, which is enabled by default, to restore the files on your computer in case they become damaged. If a virus, worm, or Trojan infects a computer, System Restore may back up the virus, worm, or Trojan on the computer.

Windows prevents outside programs, including antivirus programs, from modifying System Restore. Therefore, antivirus programs or tools cannot remove threats in the System Restore folder. As a result, System Restore has the potential of restoring an infected file onto your computer, even after you have cleaned the infected files from all the other locations.

Also, a virus scan may detect a threat in the System Restore folder even though you have removed the threat.

For instructions on how to turn off System Restore, read your Windows documentation, or one of the following articles:

What was the virus? Did norton give a name?
To shut off system restore:
Start->Control Panel->System->System Restore Tab..check the box that says Shut off System Restore.

I've figured out the problem. It was called an IRCBot.trojan

Norton, AVG, etc. won't be able to locate it so if anyone else has the problem I had go to http://www.terrorfactor.com/IRCBot.trojan.fix.html
