HI I saw alot of things on duel booting, but I have windows XP installed now on my computer and would like to duel boot windows 98 SE. We all know XP won't run alot of programs so I went out and bought a new HD, This is the HD I want to use for windows 98 SE. I think I understand how to install it but when I boot the computer how do I get to use windows 98 SE if I want to. Will I have to change the bios each time? or can I set it up so that it will ask me if I want to boot windows 98 or XP. As for installing all I need to do is put the windows 98 in the cd-rom and tell it to install itself on my new HD right ?

Thankd Frank

You have two options go buy either Partition Magic or System Commander 2000 and they will give you the ability to boot multipal OS without loosing any data upon installation.
Option #2 go buy a Mobile Rack or Swappable drive bay for only $15 or $20 and just use it to swap harddrives with out opening up the case (that is once you have the Mobile Rack installed. Also you can use one hard drive on the internet and not wory about the other being hacked or virus. Do all your legal, personal work on the one you don't use for the internet. Keeps every thing safe that way. Just a suggestion. That's is how i have been doing it for the past few years.

You must install Win98 first on C: if not when you install Win 98 on D: it will over write XP mbr. That is why is gave you the two options. Either third party software or the Swappable drive bay.

Yes, first install Win98 and then XP. It will install the windows XP dual boot menu. It is asci based but it works.

I often use the XOSL bootmanager (freeware). This is fully graphical and has some features to swap disk when booting, also Ranisch Partition manager is installed. Even combinations with Linux is no problem.

My first dual boot setup i could boot winME and WinXP from it without the XP bootmenu. Only now after a transfer to a 120Gig harddisk i have some probs with it. Hope i find a solution for that. :(

Greetz, Robert
