In an earlier post I mentioned about how I installed Windows XP Pro on another computer, only to find out that I needed a second product key. I have the 100% legal versions of both XP Pro and Home, but unfortunately I have already used my product key for XP Pro once, I figured out after I installed it that I can only use it once.

So I have to downgrade from XP Pro back to XP Home, now the XP Pro already had Service pack two built into it, and my XP Home had service pack 1a built into it. I looked for an uninstall option in Add/Remove programs in both safe mode and normal mode and could not find an uninstall for XP Pro, so I than tried putting the CD for Home Edition in to install, and it told me that it would not install an older version of Windows.

Now here is my question, is there a way around this problem without losing all of my files and setting?

Thank You

Try using the files & settings transfer wizard (under Accessories/systemtools), then you can at least save them, do a format/reinstall, & then reapply your files/settings.

Yes a reinstall will be required after formatting the disk.

Another good reason for keeping files and data on a seperate partition than that of the OS.
