My desktop crashes continuously every 5-10 seconds and comes back. The problem is that I cannot explore my machine anymore since it is shutting my explorer. I've been trying to find a solution everywhere but can't seem to find one. Please help..

If you dont have the xp cd you can download the xp boot disk repair floppys off the internet and use them but it will take four or so foppies to do it.
Then, what shall I do after that? Will that reformat my drive?

No anna, if you wont to format you will see that option, hopefully you can repair what is causing your problem with the recovery console.

You probably need to boot up the Windows XP cd and reinstall. If it offers you to repair the current installation, go with that. Otherwise, keep the same partitions, same file system, and use the same Windows folder. Most of your personal files will be saved. You may need to reinstall some programs, since they will not be registered in Windows. After you get Windows XP working again, you should do a virus scan. It's also possible you need a BIOS chip update, or some hardware driver update.
I experienced this same problem....I discovered that if you have a zip folder inside a regular folder that is then inside a zip folder it will crash explorer, blanking out your desktop, and then restoring your desktop.... just a qwerk in XP i think

I have a program that I recently installed. Whenever I run it...afterwards I would have symptoms like yours...(it happened this morning). Rebooting a few times didn't help...but after a while, it stopped doing it. Do you remember installing any programs?

I sympathize Anna, I'm kinda in the same boat as you. I'm trying to get information on what to do after getting to the recovery console and selecting "r" to repair a missing or corrupt file (my message is posted a little farther down from yours). If I get anything, I'll pass on the info to ya. Good luck!
