Comment:
my windows xp could for some reason only reach the point where it displays the windows logo and the loading bar showcasing the progress of the start up. the bar is constantly delayed, and for some reason would not exceed that point for hours at a time, and even then not get me on. can anyone help?

A few things to try
* boot from XP CD and run the repair option
* try booting into safe mode if successful . . . START -- RUN -- MSCONFIG Startup Tab
uncheck all programs listed there that you do not need to start at boot up. Then try to reboot. If it boots up then one of your start programs is the culprit. Experiment until you find which one it is.
* boot to safe mode START -- RUN -- SFC /SCANNOW reboot after finished
* boot from XP CD and perform a Full Recovery (you will loose files and third party programs which you will have to reinstall)
Good Luck to you!

Another thought . . .
It could also be a bad memory module. If you have more than one module alternately remove modules and try to boot.
