Comment:

Lately, whenever I start up windows Xp (Professional Edition) a command prompt window keeps appearing by the name of cmd.exe. The window appears then suddenly disappears, and repeats this sequence until a windows explorer32 error appears causing it to stop. About two weeks ago, this problem started, however at that time, after the cmd.exe window would appear after about 6 or 7 times, a connection prompt appears saying "you (or a program) have requested information from m00c0w.organiccrap.com" and asks me to pick a device to connect. Now, the cmd.exe prompt just appears and disappears for quite a while, until a windows explorer32 message comes up, and halts the cmd.exe window from popping up. I would very much obliged if someone could help me!!!! Thank you!!!!

Sounds like a virus or Trojan. Download Tauscan for trojan removal, Adaware for spyware removal and scan your system for viruses with a good virus scanner like Norton.

After these are all done, run msconfig and uncheck anything you don't need from the startup tab.

Hopefully, this will remove whatever is causing your problems.

Several simular problems posted.
This one is a copied response to another post.
--------
Any shortcuts or even full programs that you place inside the Startup folder will run automatically each time you start Windows. The items displayes in a particular user's Startup folder actually come from two places:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

and

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

where username denotes a your user account configured on the computer.

So, try to remove it from the above two folders.
--------------

Still another response to another post says
that "it could be a virus. these things do not just happen."

m00c0w.organiccrap.com - i remember in irc many years ago...in the underground, people would use names like that...so yeah, some sort of virus or trojan has made it on your system. Any legal/professional server wouldn't use that kind of name, and your computer wouldn't try to access that server unless you had a program on it that does that...

To the first response, thanks for the tips, and it got me somwhere, however the problem still didnt stop. I deleted some items on my computer using adaware which were probable spy ware defects. I tried scanning for viruses but it didnt find any viruses.
To the second repsonse, again thanks for the tip, but it doesnt say command prompt or cmd in any of the startup folders. To the last responser, im usre you know it already, thanks a lot! haha but recently, the m00c0w.organiccrap.com window doesnt come up anymore. Maybe i didnt say this earlier (if its any help) the command for the cmd.exe is (c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe). thanks!!

It's a virus or Trojan, got it on my system and couldn't get rid of it.
Used Norton’s but it didn't find a thing! Using XP search I looked for modified files on the date the problem first started.
Found Explorer32 in Windows/System32/ directory
DELETED
REBOOTED
PROBLEM GONE

Just to make sure... :-)
Recovered the file and ran it; what do you now, it was back!

Norton’s did not treat the program as a virus, had the latest update and scanned it. Came back clean - so beware.
Incidentally on running Explore32 it also created other 20k files - 100 plus!
It's worth searching to see if it's left anything behind.
