If this printer is a black and white, then I would suggest using the Apple LaserWriter II vNT47 driver. It comes already available with XP and works for every printer. Plus you won't have to worry about searching for drivers and forcing an installation.

Here's what Canon says:
"The BJC5000/5100 printer is not compatible with Windows XP and a driver will not be made available. However, we have been successful in printing to the BJC-5000/5100 printers in Windows XP using the Windows 2000 drivers (these drivers are available on Canon's web site).
Though we cannot support the printer and driver in the XP O/S, you do have the option to try the driver, and assess its suitability to your environment."

To Jennifer SUMN,
I'm surprised a highly experienced responder whose know-how I greatly appreciate suggested to use Win ME drivers for XP environment.
You do know ME is a DOS based system while XP has NT kernel: two diffferent animals with similar (trading) names. Their DNA (and drivers) are absolutely not compatible.
Any way thanks for your valuable posts.

I do know there are differences, but thanks for pointing it out. I wouldn't go so far as to say that the drivers are incompatible, so we disagree on that.
I've found in the past that the ME drivers were more compatible in the situations I've experienced. That may not be the case for everyone.
Life's more painless for the brainless.

If there are 2000 drivers as well as ME drivers, if there are no drivers for XP, the 2000 drivers are a lot more likely to work in XP.
