I installed the Windows XP backup program from the CD a few days ago and tried it for the first time tonight.
I had plans on using my CDRW (Sony) for the backups but the program does not recognize my drive.
Does anyone know how to make this work?
Does anyone recognize the program so that I could get a commercial version of it? It looks something like the Veritas Backup Exec program that I use in Windows 98 but am not sure.

Hai...
I've tried that too, but without succes. Tried everything, except making a program that does the job...
As far as I know that is the only way.
You can find these codes at:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/hardware/imapi_0zle.asp
I didn't try to make this program, or I would have given it to you, sorry...
Good luck...

I have been facing the same problem with Windows XP Home edition. The program does not recognize my combo CD-RW drive (Toshiba). Plus, Roxio's CD Creator 5 platinum for Windows XP no longer supports its Take Two program, which is the backup component. Plus, Dantz' Retrospective Express does not support my combo CD-RW drive. There doesn't seem to be a viable backup option! Has anyone figured out a way around this problem?

If you format your blank CD for use with Roxio's "Direct CD" the backup program will recognize your drive. You can then backup portions of your hard disk individually, as long as you don't exceed the capacity of the CD. I believe the CD will hold close to 4-Gig in the compressed format that the "Backup" program uses. However the program makes no provisions for spanning volumes, so you are limited to one section of your drive at a time!
