Comment:

Just bought the above graphics card but horrible performance on XP. The directdraw tests in dxdiag take ages - a minute or mre - to complete. For example the first test which draws black and white rectangles draws them at one a second or slower. Haven't found a game which works yet properly e.g. AOE very slow and jerky.

Never had these problems with Windows 98....

First bit of dxdiag:

also noticed that the minimum system requirements for processor is
Intel Pentium II
AMD K6-2 or higher
the intel pentium II is around 450 and the k6-2 even though it's a 400 it handles things a little different. maybe your processor is working at it's max.

I have the same problem with XP and the MX 440 chip. I thought the TNT64 chip (old) was the problem, so I updated the video card. Still have the same lagging problem. Looks great for several frames, then totally pauses, then continues.

I have tried all of the versions of the NVIDIA drivers. None seem to work any better.

I'm using a P4 1.5 GHz. Also, adjusting the level of detail, depth, or resolution does not affect the problem or the frequency of occurance, so there has to be a driver-related problem somewhere.

Besides a new graphics card driver are there any other drivers to update/try.

Thanks.

My hypothesis at the moment is that because I have a BP6 motherboard with Intel 440BX chipset, I am not (and can never be?) at AGP 2. I don't know enough to know whether that's correct. Any help gratefully received.
