I have recently loaded Win XP RC1 Build 2505. The only game I have tried so far is Max Payne and it works without problem. I have a SoundBlaster card that I have had for a couple of years and an Nvidia Geforce 256, likewise nearly 2 years old. XP recognised these without problem and without need to install additional drivers. so it looks promising.

If you do not have a Voo Doo Card you should not have any proplems. I have the 2600 Pro build and all of the games I have loaded (ATI CARD) work great. From Racing to Tomb Raider look better and seem to work faster.

Good Luck

From what I have seen on a friends machine the only games that might give you headaches are ones that use OpenGL (this is with RC1) but basically anything that runs under Win98/ME/NT/2000 (not nesecarily 95 some of those games were iffy) will run under XP

XP's application compatibility support will actually allow older games to work better than they did on Windows 2000 or (for really old games) even Windows 95/98

Iv'e managed to get my hands on the final code of windows xp and it's s--- for games. Here are the games i tried that don't work.

a) Tribes 2 - Can't even load the main menu without an "Unhandled Exception ERROR".

b) WWII Online - I get to the main menu, move my mouse, and my computer locks up.

c) Unreal Tournament - Won't even install :|.

XP IS CRAP FOR GAMES!

Final Code? Ahh, I guess a warez version. Well. I've got RC2 running (official) and EVERY game I tried runs like a charm, incl. Unreal Tournament and Quake III. It's like you said Steve, "It's not the computer, it's the user"

I have build 2526, and it runs UT and Quake III just fine too. However, Tribes 2, SW: Racer, both have a very bad "flicker" which I didn't experience in one of the earlier BETA builds. Mechwarrior 4 runs with a negative image, and Giants runs for crap. I really like XP, but am disappointed with the current build I'm using, and the apparent incompatibility with my GeForce2 Ultra.

I bought a new laptop from Sony 1 Gig processor, 512 megs RAM and it has XP installed. Unreal runs, but it runs lightning fast. I mean so fast it's a blur. I can't play it, it's so fast. Anyone know how I can fix this?

Thanks

I just installed Windows XP and tried to play Age of Empires II. At first everything appears OK, but then I realized that I don't have a lot of the functionality - like formation, no attack stance, etc. Anyone else have this problem?

When I first installed WinXP I had stop errors (blue screens) when I tried to run certain games sometimes. (Diablo II, Unreal Tournament, Quake 2 (wouldn't run at all)) Other games ran fine (Heavy Metal: Fakk2, Quake 3 Arena, GLQuake, American McGee's Alice, Baldur's Gate, WipeOut XL (WipeOut XL is not optimized for faster processors so it always runs fast for me, so at least no change.) Then all the games started getting the same stop errors (blue screens) as the first ones I mentioned. It was in the nv_disp driver. This is the Nvidia driver. If you have a GeForce/GeForce2/GeForce3 card and experience similar problems try going back to an older driver (these will be labeled as Windows 2000 drivers, not XP). I did and everything works great now. Hopefully the next Detonator XP drivers from Nvidia will fix this problem.

i have windows XP, and in my experience Windows 2000 and XP arent that great for games, however Windows 98 is. I have a number of games, unreal tournament, Red Alert 2, Crimson Skies, and some other high spec games that require alot of graphics. (I have a Nvidia TNT2) I noticed on Windows 2000 (especially) graphics were badly changed, but windows XP i havent had any probs with so far, but i would like to know if Mechwarrior 4 Vengeance works on XP, because i would hate to buy the game and then realise it doesnt work, because im not that sure, it is a microsoft game so logic would say that the ywould configure all their games so that they would work on any windows platform. So, does anyone know if Mechwarrior 4 Vengeance will work on windows XP? Regards, Sam Tapps

Hmm...I installed tribes 2 and downloaded the updates etc..then i wanted to start the game and it gives me a "UNHANDLED EXEPTION ERROR". I think you have to download another driver for your video card because my friend had the same problem and solved it like this...so try this folks: DOWNLOAD NEW DRIVER FOR YOUR VIDEO CARD!
good luck
i will write something when i tried another driver for my voodoo 5.
bye

Everything I have tried on Xp works fine except for Mechwarrior 2 Mercenaries. The games that did work are Mechwarrior 4, Half Life, IL2 Sturmovic, Medal of Honor, Sega GT....the list goes on. Basicly every application I used to run under 98 works fine under XP.
