I just upgraded my Compaq computer from Windows 98 to Windows XP Home. I re-installed the Belkin Wireless software & the card & went thur the entire installation process from the beginning but receive the following message in the end:
There was a problem installing this hardware: Belkin 11Mbps Wireless Desktop PCI Adapter (F5d6001V.2)
An error occured during the installation of the device. The system cannot find the file specified.
The card worked fine with Windows 98 and I can't figure out what is holding up the installation.
Thanks for any information that might help me figure this out.

Have you checked to make sure your hardware is compatible with XP? If it is, then the problem is likely to be that you need drivers for WinXP for your card. Many components that work in Win98 will not work in WinXP and those that do may require new dirvers.

I will take a flying guess that since your card will run @ 11mps, it is fairly new. I suggest that you check your manual or the manufacturer website to make sure it is compatible with XP. You didn't state how you installed it, but try this:
>Delete all drivers for that card; also check out Hardware Manager and delete references from there, as well as the driver folder in Explore. If you have some experience and feel confident, enter the register, do a search for your driver name and delete all register entrys for that card (this isn't absolutely necessary).
>Power down, remove the card from the box;
>Power up, and allow XP to rebuild the register minus the hardware card and drivers;
>Now re-install the drivers;
>Power down and reinstall the card in the box;
Power up; XP should find the drivers and install the card, or at least ask you for the drivers again. Sometimes you have to fiddle a bit, but this should do it.

I just reviewed your post; don't forget to install the XP drivers, not 98; as long as you are on the manuf. website, check if they have updated drivers for XP also.
