My problem. I have 2 pc's. One at home and one at work. Both have Windows XP Pro (w/sp1) installed on them. I would like to transfer files from my work pc to a CDRW disc with Windows XP and then take them home to work on the on my home pc. Here is the problem. Every time I make a CDRW disc with my files on it and take it home the files have magically become "read only" and it will not let me modify the files. But, if I take the disc back to work (the computer the disc was made on) then the files can be modified etc on the disc. This really defeats the purpose of using a cdrw as a large floppy disc. Anyone shed some light here? tia

maybe this is obvious but did you change try to change the file attributes? I have to admit tho i never used a cdrw disk. i just burn and toss...Maybe you could just copy the files onto your harddrive.

That's about right. You can copy the files to a folder named "Work Files" on your hard drive, right-click the Work Files icon, and choose properties--untick the box next to the Read-only attribute and click Apply or OK. Windows will ask if you'd like to apply the change to subfolders and files as well. Click OK.

What program are you using to write the data onto the cd? You need a packet writing program like Roxio's Direct CD to format the cdrw to use floppy style, and you need the same writing program installed on both pcs. If you are using XP's built-in burning facility, it is session writing.
