You use the licence that belongs to the computer you are repairing.

Activate it with the key on the DVD that came with the computer or bought for it.

1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.

in most cases these repairs are made for indivuals who will most likely be the third or forth owner of a particular system, what i do is up date the os ,when need but the disc used is usually a er-sell item from a thrift store....in other words the income level is at a minimum for most of my clients........i use a sliding scale/free labor/ barter system....they just want to be on line, no serious business system....any ideals on how to cheaply replace a windows sys. Open Source is a little to advanced for most....Thanks in advance guys.

Silverbackbone:

The reason the licence key purchased for re-sell outlets is that they keys was obtained illegally and have been blocked by MS. If you wish to update someone's computer you should do it properly. Updating with a pirated key is not doing them any favours at all.

If you are looking for ways of installing pirated software forget it; you have come to the wrong place for that. We don't do piracy, hacking or any other illegal activity.

It doesn't matter how altruistic your may be, if you want to install anything more advanced than Windows 98, you need a licence.

Disc are easy to get hold of. It is the licence that costs the money. The only way to legally obtain a product key and thereby a licence is to buy one. Using a licence obtained by any other means makes you a pirate.

Any disc sold without a product key is useless unless you already have a licence for the computer you are going to install it one.

If the license key already with the computer is legal you can recover it using Magic Jelly bean key finder. Write it down and use it later.

If it not legal then as the others, buy another

2x1Gb Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800Mhz

Oh geesh, I may be wrong and stretching my memory ...

Have you looked at Lindows?

I am pretty sure that this is a window'ish sort of Linux. I will Google when I get a sec. :)

Edit: I could not find a current download, but I know there still has to be one. It would be a no-cost or cheap option perhaps. Sorry! HTH some!

I'm still learning everyday.

The Lindows name now belongs to Microsoft. They paid $20,000,000 for it. The software formerly known as Lindows now goes by the name of Xandros.
