I'm ready for an operating system for my computer I'm building. I was planning to go with Windows XP 32 bit for now and later as 64 bit drivers become more readily availble for my scanner and printer switch to Windows XP Pro 64 bit I already have a Sempron 2800 64 bit installed on my new computer. Then I saw this description for a Windows XP Pro 64 bit OS on EBay as follows " Flexibility
Windows XP Professional x64 Edition provides a rich platform to integrate 64-bit applications and existing 32-bit applications using the Windows on Windows 64 (WOW64) x86 emulation layer, providing customers with the ability to move to 64-bit computing without having to sacrifice their existing investment in 32-bit software and Windows expertise." Does this mean that this 64 bit OS will run my printer and scanner now even though they have 32 bit drivers installed as 64 bit drivers are not available for HP scanjet 3500c scanner and a Canon i450 printer yet. Many thanks Maparus

No. the emulation is for the applications, not the drivers. Even so, there are still many issues running 64-bit. For example the OS comes with two versions of Internet Explorer (32 & 64) because some components for IE are not available in 64-bit.
Unless you have a specific need for 64-bit (developing apps for example) I'd suggest waiting a little while longer before going to 64-bit. It is the future, but it's not quite here yet.

Go here to AMD x64 drivers site, and there is a link for the HP Scanjet, most probally your Cano is supported...
