I'm not completely sure but this sounds like a virus or some bug! Have you installed any new dowloads or got odd email lately?

when it comes to computers for me you have to explor all options you know. See what you can do about running a full scan...

reboot your computer into "Safe Mode with networking". to do this you would reboot your computer and instantly start toggling the F8 key till the start up page comes up. If the system goes to the xp start screen you need to re start your system and try again.

Once in the "safe Mode with networking" go online to

http://www.pcpitstop.com

run their full system malware/virus scan and let them fix any issues that come up.

If these other tips don’t work I would login as Administrator.
Remove all user accounts. Make a new User account (using a Diferent
User name! Don’t remake a user account you already had.)
Then Reboot. Login under the new user account. If you have the same problem
Your explorer.exe is corrupt. You cant just recopy the explorer file to your computer
Because windows writes information to the file.
You will need to reinstall Windows. If your running Windows Xp 32bit (PRO or HOME)
You can select repair under install options. This will copy all of windows core files to your OS. Everything else will be left alone.
