Comment: I try to start windows and it gets to the "windows is starting" screen then goes black and starts over again. Ive also tried to reboot into safemode and every other option in F8 same thing every time....i cant reinstall windows cuz i dont have the disk for it is there anything else i can do???

Reply: (edit)unplug any device that you have just added (including the cable modem). If that doesnt work, try removing all hardware but the video card and add them back one at a time until it stops working again. I am suggesting this route as you dont have a windows disk, if you did, you could do a repair install

Reply: (edit)I believe a Hewlett Packard system should have recovery software loaded on the hard drive. Check their web site for information on the recovery procedure. Do yourself a favor BACKUP! Sorry, I do not check for private messages

Reply: (edit)Ham is correct, unless it has been formatted at some point, it has a hidden partition that you can boot to and restore. It will overwrite anyhting on your HD though so be aware of that. Haven't used one of theirs in a while but, if you can find the keystroke during the boot for a boot menu you should see the option. Maybe F12 (or thta may be IBM)
