Hey all,

I'd like to think I'm a somewhat advanced computer user but this one has me extremely frustrated. Here's the problem: My Windows Update flat out wont work. I noticed that the auto update was downloading an update and was about 11% complete when it appeared to lock up. Now I knew enough to try and let it finish downloading so I left it overnight, woke up in the morning and it was still at 11%. So I finally had to reboot the PC. For about 2 weeks no windows updates came up (which I thought was strange). I went to make sure it was still enabled and it was. So I went to the windows update site manually and went to custom install the updates (there were between 5 and 10 updates to perform). So I tried to download/install the updates and again, the download locked at 11%. So I rebooted again and this time, whenever I try and go to the windows update page it wont load and internet explorer locks up completely (just get white screen). I heard it might be a problem with my ActiveX controller, so I reinstalled that. I've tried returning to the page multiple times with no success. However, ONE TIME (with no explanation) the site loaded. So I went to update manually and I had to "upgrade some of its components." I clicked Download and Install now and all I got was "Preparing for Download...." and the installation status just had a blinking cursor. I have a print screen of this incase its not clear what I mean. So,I Left it alone for an enitre day and finally rebooted after no activity, now I can't get back to page again. I've tried booting in safe mode, made sure its not a spyware/virus issue, and tried booting with all items in startup (msconfig) and booting with all items disabled from startup. Nothing doing. Hope someone can help. Thanks in advance.

Makes you wonder how Microsoft is still going bey hey thats just the way it goes i guess... Try turning off windows updates and accessing the site. Also try using avant browser as this is an extension of Internet Explorer so it should accept it as a valid browser.
