Comment:

Reloaded Xp from scratch. The first MS update was SP 3, downloaded and installed, no problems. Now when I try to update, the size of the updates show 0 MB and they fail to download and install. Has anyone else seen this???
Thanks

Thanks
Rick

Need to know the exact error message that pops up when it fails to install or does it display a error message.

What makes you think there are any more updates after SP3.

SP3 was pulled and just placed back into the update site this week. I would assume that means it is up to date. I just scanned my system for updates and it offered SP3 but do post SP3 updates.

Does Add/remove show SP3 as installed? If so, I would say your system is fully patched.

I'm curious,

Is there another SP3 update on the way?

SP3v1, SP3v1.1, SP3vdeltree c... perhaps?

It's a debacle.

There were some issues with the original release. The one on the update site is supposedly the final. I would guess SP3 is the last service pack. MS states they continue to support WinXP so anything is possible but I would guess the best you will see are some future updates just like after SP2.

Thanks

Cheers O'

Sorry if I sounded abrasive about the SP3 thing, for me it kinda turned into a labour of love after a couple of failed SP3 installs and very nearly data recovery missions.

I won't threadjack anymore.

Heya RLA,

The updates are probably showing because all the updates are encompassed in the service pack in SP3.

It maybe isn't good practice to show you they are available, when in fact you already have them.

My guess is that if SP3 isn't installed the updates would still show but with a file size included.

I don't consider IE, WMP, office updates WinXP updates. These are all offered when you go there though.

I always go to update and choose manual and then critical updates. I have excluded IE7 and WMP as I don't want them.

Haven't gone for SP3 yet either. I have downloaded the distributable version but haven't installed it. Too lazy to fix my system if it were to get trashed.
