Kill automatic update and use manual update (goto Windows Update site and update from there manually)

I have a gander, try in diagnostic mode. I wonder if somethings interfering with the operation since it knows once it updates it'll kill it (a virus).

Goto
Start, run, msconfig, diagnostic, [reboot computer], reconnect to internet and try downloading.

If this does, or doesn't work, once you done, goto start, run, msconfig, NORMAL and this will reload the things on boot.

Good luck
