Anyone ever try to go to the MS update page and get a blank page? I'm able to get to the home page but get a blank page on the update page. I am also getting a blank screen when going into the user accounts off the control panel? Sounds like maybe a virus, but Symantec is showing nothing.

I have the exact same problem, and I have an idea as to why you're having trouble reaching the windows update page.

I recommend using trying a different browser such as Mozilla Firefox (www.mozilla.org) or Netscape, then try accessing the page. If it works when you do this, then it could be that javascript isn't working in IE for some reason or another. Let me know what you find.

Philip Robert,

Sorry to say this but it will not work. You need to be running a version of Internet Explorer 4 or higher in order to use Windows Update. Look HERE for info.

Jim Nnn,

Are you sure you are running a validly licensed Windows operating system. You need to have this in order to access the Windows Update Web site. Also look HERE for info.

In addition, Windows Update can only be accessed by Internet browsers that support ActiveX Controls. For more information about ActiveX Controls, refer to the Windows Update FAQ

Yes, this is a valid legal copy of XP. I tried all of the options you all mentioned with no luck. I ended up using the repair option on the XP setup CD. This is the first time I've used it, but it seems to have fixed the problem...so far anyway. I'm trying to run the updates now. I then need to run updates on Symantec and hopefully all will be well in the world of X Pee again. Thanks for all the advice though!

Well, it has taken all morning but all MS updates loaded ok and it appears as though Symantec's live update is going ok. I should know shortly if I'm ok.

The XP repair seemed to fix the problem. Once I finished using it I could run the updates and I ran live update for Symantec ok as well as spybot and adaware to remove a little spyware. All seems well in the land of X Pee now.
