recently windows was reinstalled on the computer. now there is a problem with windows update. i wanted to get sp2 from windows update. when the page loads up i get the page: "checking for the latest version of the windows update software....... depending on your connection speed this might take a minute..." but then nothing happens...there is no automatic scanning happening, like it always used to. there is no 'scan for updates' option. whats going on?

What should happen is a box pops up to ask if its ok to install new scan software. i found a solution on the net which worked finally. i looked up the specific error number in my windows update log file in c:windows...which was error 0x800401f3. then start run type one line at a time and click ok for REGSVR32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuapi.dll REGSVR32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuaueng.dll REGSVR32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\atl.dll REGSVR32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\wucltui.dll REGSVR32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\wups.dll this worked fine after i had no hope left especially as microsoft help/troubleshooting site hadn't got any answers for a search on that specific error number, though many others.
