I just did a clean NTFS install of Win XP Pro, and when I go to windows update everything works fine until it tries to install the updates. The computer doesn't freeze, but after the updates download they just don't install. I even tried deleting the updates from the HD and restarting the computer and tried going through the process again.

I've used windows update successfully in the past with this exact copy of windows, and I dont think i'm doing anything different.

any ideas? Thanks

OK, I've found that it's not just a problem with windowsw update. Any program I try to install kust kind of "hangs" when it starts to initialize the actual instalation. I checked in the Processes under msconfig and "windows installer" is checked, so it should be working ok.

I tried to install MS Office and the same problem occured. It was going along fine until it said it was "initializing instalation" I waited for a good 10 minutes and nothing happened... but I left the house for about an hour and when I came back the instalation was done. everything I try to install does this same thing Wierd huh?

can anyone shed some more light on this?
