A friend of mine, who is very computer illiterate, asked me to buy him a new computer. This I did, not bad at all (except its better than mine!) I installed it for him, adding software etc BUT left him to decide which ISP to use for his wireless broadband. I said the choice is yours, but not AOL.
He went for AOL. His wireless network works fine (mainly) but he has had trouble connecting sometimes. He has re-installed AOL, as instructed by them, but then I had to re-establish the wirless network. Some sites, Itunes for example, he can't access or create an account even with the security very low.
He asked me to look at it for him & I noticed that no windows updates have occured since AOL was installed (6 months ago) I think this is probably the main problem he is having.
Does anyone know how to get windows updates to work when internet explorer has been hijacked by AOL? It just does not allow you to view the updates, let alone download them. This is via AOL's browser or IE, neither work. Anyone got any ideas?

Since your friend uses AOL, the best he can do is minimising the AOL browser (once connected) and then open Internet Explorer and visit Windows Update. Have you tried it this way?

Thanks for the reply.
Yep, tried all that. Gets to the 'Checking for latest updates for your windows' screen and nothing happens. Like I said with both AOL & IE browsers, Windows update will not run. He has rung AOL helpline, but he might as well ring Bombay. All they said was upgrade your package (ie another £5 a month to £30) and it should sort it. Of course it didn't make any difference, but it does make them richer.
