I have a major problem with Windows Update. Whenever I go to check for new updates and try to install them I get a blue screen for about 3 seconds and then my PC restarts!

I've never had this problem before, any ideas what it could be? I'm on WinXp Sp2, my AntiVirus isn't detecting any viruses either. I reformatted about 2 months ago, so it should be pretty clean.

Right click My Computer,
Properties,
Advanced tab,
Settings button (Starup and Recovery),
uncheck Automatically Restart.

Now you should get an error message when it happens again.

Helpful to know what the blue screen error says.

Right just look at the error code and google it when it pops up on the screen. After you do what chuck said.

In this article--
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314063
look at the section-
"Look for other hardware issues".
It appears to help you isolate hardware issues.

That article is for IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
