ok, the last time i was able to install anything using windows update was on february 12th. everytime i've scanned it after it says there are no updates in any section. it seems weird that for almost a month absolutely no updates have been added. i've had this problem also with the mcafee stinger, it used to always tell me when there was a new version because mine was outdated and it stopped in january...is there any reason my computer's alerts aren't working?? i'm quite confused.

It is just that there have been no new updates since then from M$ but mcafee has been updated regularly with their virus protection, I recied 1 just a n hour ago. I am not sure about the stinger prog, but you might go to their website and check it out and if there are new ones for you then you should start looking to see if some process with the updater for mcafee is corupted or just turned off.

Everytime I try to run Windows Update, a message pops up saying that "Your current security settings prohibit ActiveX controls on this page. As a result, the page may not display properly".

I've already changed the security settings and added the windows update websites to Trusted Sites, and it still won't work.

Help please, anyone?!?

The problem has nothing to do with your Security settings, but with some app (probably spyware) that has unregistered some of your Crytography settings.

Here is a link to Microsoft's Article that can explain everything in excrutiating detail: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;822798

I created a batch file to help me. I've pasted the contents below. If you cut and paste the following lines of code into a batch file and run it, it will start up the crytography service and register a bunch of dlls that should be registered. This fixed the exact same error thats in this post. Send me an email letting me know if this worked for you. Kal.

net start cryptsvc
regsvr32 softpub.dll
regsvr32 wintrust.dll
regsvr32 initpki.dll
regsvr32 dssenh.dll
regsvr32 rsaenh.dll
regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll
regsvr32 sccbase.dll
regsvr32 slbcsp.dll
regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll
