I am not able to run the microsoft windows updates anymore. The computer is a few months old and the updates did work before, but something has happened and I'm unable to run them now.

When I click on the windows update I get the message pop up saying, "Checking for the latest version of the Windows Update software", but it immediately hangs from that point and freezes up.

I have tried disabling firewall and antivirus, but that hasn't helped. I tried tweaking the IE security settings and that hasn't done anything either. I've cleaned up files using CCLEANER and run antivirus. I use McAffee antivirus and Internet Security. Virus scans don't yield anything. Adaware cleaned up a little junk, but still I'm unable to get windows update to work.

Does anyone have experience or suggestions with this? Thanks.

another thing that you could try, is typing "sfc /scannow" into run prompt found in you start menu. It scans the sys files and fixes any corrupt ones.
