Windows Update Is Blocked:

Specs: Windows XP, Pentium 4cpu 2.40 GHz
Hi,
Just wondering if anyone else has tried to use the Windows Update today.
I go there using the Tool, in IE8 then "Windows Update." It has always taken me there.
But all day today, I have been blocked by "Panda Cloud Antivirus," stating that it has blocked me because the site is malicious etc.. And it wants me to download the Panda Cloud Antivirus.
I have tried everything for several hours to get through to the Windows Update site and can not.
I was off the computer for more than a week and knew that I had to do my updating right away. Updated my Microsoft Essentials then tried the Windows Update to no avail.
Used: MS Fix It Center. . . Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool. . . Microsoft Safety Scanner. . . Disk Clean Up and Defrag and downloaded and used malwarebytes.org.
I even deleted IE 8 and downloaded/installed it again.

I have: Windows XP Hm ED 32 bit sp3 Pentium 4 CPU 2.40GHz 1.46 GB RAM

Never do games. All I have been doing is data entry for FamilySearch. Reserching surnames.

Now, I'm a great grandma and don't know a whole lot about all this.
Was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.
Can you try using your IE, Tools, Windows Update. . . and see if it happens to you?

Mine is working fine. Have you tried completely clearing all cookies, browsing history and such?

panda is a legit program but, this is typical behavoir for a rogue antivirus. Have you ever tried to install panda?

Out of curiosity, do either of the following two links to Windows Update work (they are slightly different to each other)?

I'm rather inclined to suggest hanging on for a few days to see if this
problem sorts itself out, if not try one of the fixes suggested on that forum.

Although you can probably type http://www.update.microsoft.com/ in the address bar to get to Windows update, my Mom's PC had the same problem, along with some other browser hijacking going on. After removing several toolbars and reconfiguring her IE settings, I went to update her PC and used the delivered link for MicroSoft Update, and I got the exact same Panda message. Neither McAfee nor Malware Bytes found anything about Panda. Nevertheless, I just fixed it; here's what worked for me. Go to the Control Panel, then Add/Remove Programs. Look for InternetHelper1.5 Anti-phising. If you have it, click the Remove Button to uninstall it. It is powered by Panda Security (as I learned by reviewing her Registry). After removing InternetHelper1.5 Anti-phising, I was able to use the delivered icon for Windows Update and it did take me to Windows Update--no more Panda messge.
