Reply: (edit)Clear the Contents of the WindowsUpdate Folder 1. Click Start, click Programs, and then click Windows Explorer. 2. In the left pane, double-click the Program Files folder. 3. In the left pane, double-click the WindowsUpdate folder. 4. In the right pane, click the V4 folder, click Edit, and then click Invert Selection. 5. Press DELETE, and then click Yes to confirm. 6. Open the V4 folder, then in the right pane, click to select the IUHIST.XML file, click Edit, and then click Invert Selection. 7. Press DELETE, and then click Yes to confirm. Note When you delete the IUHIST.XML file from the WindowsUpdate folder, you clear the whole Windows Update installation history. Microsoft does not recommend that you do this because you lose your record of previous downloads. The steps in this section delete all your files except the IUHIST.XML file. M

Reply: (edit)I'm not trying to clear it myself..i'm trying to find out how to. I can review the history through Windows Update and I'd like to know what files stores those contents.

Reply: (edit)Thanks XpUser, but i'm not seeking to wipe any software, but rather just clear the viewable history of very, very old updates. Not looking to remove the actual updates themselves. Chris

Reply: (edit)Why? It isn't taking up any huge space nor is it hurting anything. Why not keep it for the sake of the machine's history? I know I have have pages of successful updates sitting somewhere. i_XpUser

Reply: (edit)What are u going to achieve by deleting kelobytes of files in terms of PC performance if the Risk:Benefit ratio weighs against you? I had posted my earlier reply using the Red colored Font just to get your attention to what you were proposing to do!:-) XPUser had quoted the chapter and verse for further emphasis:-) M

Reply: (edit)Gotcha, maad!! I think I know why...When you visit WU site, they will look up this file on your PC to see what you need. If there's no such file, WU will bring up every updates for you to download again. i_XpUser
