Windows Update Freeze

When trying to get updates off Microsoft's web site it scans for forever. then I get error message 0x8ddd0009. It freezes my computer to where I have to turn the computer off. Had same problem when trying to test my computer on PCPITSTOP. Froze it solid. Ant ideas? Thanks John

Are you sure it was frozen ? how long did you leave it, with 256MB Memory XP may be trying to execute and not have enough resources to do so... I have had PC's come back to life after 30minutes just by leaving them be...........

It could be an Internet Explorer related issue. Try downloading your updates directly from microsoft without choosing the auto detect option or download IE7 & the update for IE7 from www.softwarepatch.com

We have two computers. One has no problems acessing Windows Update, the one in question will not download Updates or download from another site. Something is keeping it from accepting downloads. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks
