Comment:

hi,

i've just done a clean installation of Windows XP Pro onto a P4 1.7Ghz... everything has gone smoothly over the installation, but when i go to do a Windows Update it comes up with the following error:

"Windows Update Error"

"Windows Update has encountered an error. this may be due to a discrepancy
in your computer's time setting."

"To check your date and time setting:
1. On the taskbar, double-click the time.
2. Verify that the date and time is correct."
================================

The date and time are correct - I even synchronized the time with one of the
atomic clocks. I tried rebooting, and disabling Automatic Updates, but to
no avail.

any suggestions

thanks for your help :o)

I guess it could be that you have to check the bios and see that the time there is correct or some apps will tell. ?

Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options .
Click the Languages tab .
Make sure something is defined in there .

Also , make sure the year is correct ( I see you checked time & date )

Are you using ZoneAlarm with mobile code blocking enabled? If so disable it while checking for updates.
