I am using Windows XP Home and I can't get Windows Update to work. I go to the site and click on "Scan for updates", then it says that there are no updates in any of the categories. When I click on the "Welcome" link on the left side, a page displays that says:
"Windows Update ErrorWindows Update has encountered an error and cannot display the requested page.
Select from any of the following pages for information about Windows Update services, or send us your feedback.
Windows Update Home Page
About Windows Update
Support Information"It worked before but now it doesn't and I can't find any solution for it. If anyone has a solution for this problem, please share it with me...Thanks!

If there are no updates available then your machine is up to date!
And clicking on the welcome link will just take you to the same page as you are already on.
If you want to double check hold ctrl key down and refresh browser.regards...riz

I know that it is a problem with my Windows Update because I have another computer with Windows XP and Windows Update works fine on that one. Also, I never recieved the error message when Windows Update was working properly before.

Does update scan for you?
or you receive error as page opens.
Do you run a firewall?
I use sygate stealth that hides my os
and unless i disable this feature i cannot
access updates or hotmail etc.

Nate, go to the Windows Update site and click on "View Installation History" and write down what you have installed on your computer. Then go to the following site:
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/catalog/en/default.asp
It's the Windows Update Catalogue. On the left hand side of the page you will see "Find updates for Microsoft Windows Operating Systems" and "Find driver updates for hardware devices".
When you click on either one a small Window will open and choose you OS. From there you will get a list from which you can download.

After I click on Scan for updates, I can not click on "View Installation History" or Personalize Windows Update. Before I click on Scan for updates, when I click on Installation history, it lists nothing, but I know I installed updates before.

Any updates that are removeable are listed in the control panel add and remove programs and are always listed as HotfixQ and the number of the update

I don't want to remove any updates...I already knew about the updates listed in add/remove programs....I'm just trying to find out why Windows Update will not work on my computer. Does anyone know of a way to completey remove Windows Update in Windows XP so that it will reinstall itself when I visit the Windows Update site? Thanks.

I have the exact same problem with Windows Update. It won't scan and there are NO options available from the Windows update Site.
