Hi I had a problem with my laptop, so I did a repair with with WIn xp disk. The OS disk had sp1 on it but the laptop had been updated to SP2. Now the laptop still has parts of Sp2 installed and is stopping me getting the downloads from Windows Update (error 0x80072ee2).
Check with your friends to see if one has a SP2 upgrade CD. Microsoft mailed them out to people who requested them a while back.
Do yourself a favor BACKUP!!!

You can download it manually from Microsoft. Instead of doing the Xpress Install, pick the other option. Sorry, I can't remember off the top of my head what the other option is.

Could it be something to do with it being on a wireless network?

I doubt it. Just as a test, try plugging in the ethernet and try to download it. I would just suggest getting it from M$ and doing ti manually.
It's probably due to a registry key that you don'y have permission to write to.
