Subject: windows update and restoreOS: winxp proCPU/Ram: p3/512mb |
Comment: last nite local tv news say major security flaw with internet explorer. so for first time in 6 months or so, i go to windows update website for the fix. long scan of my system, then it says you need to update 'update'. i do, another long scan, then says you must update the updated 'update'. i do and install. another scan, then says your copy of win xp pro is invalid because it was bought under a group license and you can't download any updates. i go to system restore to try and go back in time and remove nasty microsoft updates, but there's no restore points to chose from! usually there's a restore point every 3 days or so to chose. so i figure microsoft must have removed any previous restore points when i downloaded their updates. any suggestions? is this going to cause future problems? thanks. never trust microsoft.

Reply: (edit)I'd suggest running a scan on your system for possible intrusion of your system. These symptoms are similar to what you'd experience with malicious software ?

Reply: (edit)What you can do now is research ways to get your comp secure & change browsers. Mozilla, Mozilla Firefox & Opera update regularly to protect against new threats.

Reply: (edit)It sounds like you have a pirated or suspect version of XP from a Corporate Version CD that has been compromised. I think you should contact Microsoft if you feel it is legal, or go buy a legal one if not.
