Windows task manager doesn't work

OS: Wind xp pro
CPU/Ram: 40 GB

When I open the task manager, I don't have a menu bar with "file," "tools," or anything. I just have a square on the screen with all the processes. I can't even view tasks or switch between the screens because I don't have the tabs at the top of the task manager either. The only way I can close the manager is by "end process." Can anyone help?

Doubleclick in the grey border - towards the edge of the window

alternativly use Ctrl and Tab to switch between paynes
