Whenever I start my pc, I get a black screen with a row of vertical white lines about 3/4 inch tall across the bottom of my screen. After about 4 minutes these lines slowly fill in with a solid line from left to right, then Windows load, any ideas? Windows used to load within 1 minute, but takes about 5 minutes now.

One thought,
Possible that the harddrive is not running at its normal speed, freezing up or slowing down.
My computer took 20 min. to boot the other day.
Mechanical devices do have there problems.
Watch the HDD activity indicator light. If it stays on or stops doing rapid blinking, then that may be your problem.

shutdown the computer using the power button.

unplug all the cables which are connected to the CPU and wait for 2 minutes and then plug-in all the cables. restart the computer.

This only happens after I format my pc, reload Windows XP, and start updating from Microsoft. It works fine until I update a few.
