Comment:

I've been trying to reformat my hard drive. I've gotten it to boot from the XP disc and got it to start listing off the drivers, but after it reads "Setup is starting Windows" it crashes and brings up a blue screen that says:

A problem has been detected and Windows has shutdown to prevent damage to your computer.

It then lists some troubleshooting tips which either don't apply or don't work

Then it gives this as technical information:

Stop: 0X0000007E (0Xc0000005, 0xf76120bf, 0xf7a5e208, 0xf7a5df08)

pci.syst-Address F76120bf base at f760b000
Date stamp 3b7d855c

If anyone can help me with this problem I would appreciate it.

This can be caused by bad ram, but bad ram is RARE. It is more likely there is a poor connection in one or more of your ram slots.
Windows Setup is very sensitive to even tiny errors reading the ram that you might not have noticed in Windows itself.
See response 2 in this - try cleaning the contacts on the ram modules, and making sure the modules are properly seated:

Make sure any USB/Firewire devices are disconnected.
