Windows Search Companion

I have had this problem for some time but it only recently began bothering me. When ever I click search in Windows the search companion sidebar appears. The problem is that there is nothing in it. Its just a blank sidebar named search companion. And I can't search. Any help is appreciated.

Maybe this-- Several dialog boxes are blank(eg. Search Companion•User Accounts•Windows Update•Help and Support•System Restore) Several dialog boxes are blank

Got it fixed. I used Chuck 2 method as it seemed the fastest. Thanks for all the help guys!
