Specs: Windows Vista
I have an Emachine with Windows XP. I have used all levels of the sysytem restore disks, including a complete overwrite. I keep getting an error message that tells me the system32.hll.dll file is missing or corrupt.I am booting from CD first and the computer detects the hard drive. I'm at a total loss as to what to do now. Any suggestions?

Is that a typo? Could it have been HAL.DLL?
Missing HAL.DLL

It was a typo! :) Unfortunatley, the microsoft info. doesn't help me. I can only access the f2,f4,f8, f10 and f12 screens or the XP Angel Recovery program. I can't enter any commands anywhere, other than to change existing BIOS or choose which recovery option. (I've already wiped it) I noticed when the computer is booting, it says I don't have a slave. ? I'm thinking this is beyond my tinkering skills.
